Not having access to sufficient food or food of an adequate quality – also known as food insecurity – is a widespread concern affecting millions of Americans. Food insecurity is amplified on the campuses of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Despite the rich cultural legacy and academic rigor of HBCUs, many students confront daily struggles to access nutritious meals. Financial constraints, inadequate support programs, and limited grocery options exacerbate the issue even further. According to research by Duke University, nearly 76% of HBCU students in the southeast are food insecure.
To help address the issue of food insecurity at HBCUs, EXCELERATE HBCU Legacy has partnered with GOODR to bring pantries offering nutritious food options to HBCU campuses across the country.
